Changing Agent Voice & Language

Voice is the first thing a caller judges. This guide covers choosing one, previewing it, and what to do when a voice sounds right in preview but wrong on a real phone line.

Where to Change It

Go to Dashboard → AI Agent Settings. The voice selector shows the available ElevenLabs voices with a preview button beside each one.

Choosing a Voice

Voices are labelled by character rather than by demographic guesswork. In practice:

  • Calm, measured voices suit medical, dental, legal, and any call where the caller may be stressed
  • Warmer, brighter voices suit restaurants, salons, cleaning, and consumer-facing services
  • Neutral professional voices are the safe default for trades, property management, and B2B

💡 Tip: Preview every candidate voice with your actual greeting text, not the default sample. A voice that sounds warm reading a generic sentence can sound clipped reading your business name.

Language

Set the language on the same screen. English (US) and English (UK) are the primary supported options, and the language setting affects pronunciation and cadence as well as vocabulary.

⚠ Note: Language and voice are linked. Changing the language can reset your voice selection, so confirm the voice is still what you expect after switching, and preview once more before saving.

Speaking Style

Separate from voice identity, the pronunciation and cadence setting controls delivery — how quickly the agent speaks and how much it enunciates. Slower, clearer delivery is worth choosing when:

  • Callers often give addresses or reference numbers
  • Your customers skew older
  • Calls frequently come from noisy environments like job sites or vehicles

Always Test on a Real Phone Line

Browser preview is high fidelity. A phone call is not. Compression over a mobile network changes how a voice lands, and a voice that seemed pleasant in preview can sound thin or sibilant on an actual call.

✓ Success: Save your change, place a test call from a mobile phone, and listen to the recording in Call Logs before deciding.
