Your First Call

Your First Call

Your agent is configured and your number is connected. This guide walks through placing a first real call, reading what the agent captured, and fixing the two or three things that are almost always slightly off on attempt one.

Place the Test Call

Call your business number from a mobile phone that is not listed as your transfer number. Calling from the transfer number can produce confusing routing behaviour.

  1. Dial your number and wait for the greeting
  2. Answer the agent's questions the way a real customer would — vague answers are a useful test
  3. Mention a service you actually offer, and a rough timeframe
  4. Let the agent close the call rather than hanging up mid-sentence

💡 Tip: Behave like a slightly difficult caller. Interrupt once, give a partial address, change your mind about a time. A call that only works when the caller is perfectly cooperative is not ready for production.

Review What Was Captured

Go to Dashboard → Call Logs and open the call you just made. You should see:

  • Transcript — the full conversation, turn by turn
  • Extracted lead details — name, phone, service requested, and any timing or address fields your agent asks for
  • Call outcome — how the call was classified once it completed
  • Lead score — scoring runs automatically after the call ends

The Three Things Usually Worth Fixing

Almost every first call surfaces at least one of these:

  1. The greeting is too long. Callers start talking over it. Trim it to one sentence that names the business and offers help.
  2. A field came back empty. If the agent never asked for the address, it will not appear. Add it explicitly to the system prompt rather than hoping the model infers it.
  3. The agent over-explains. If it recites your full service list, tighten the prompt to ask a question instead of delivering a monologue.

Re-test After Every Change

Prompt edits interact in ways that are hard to predict. Change one thing, place another call, and compare transcripts. Two or three iterations usually gets an agent from "works" to "sounds right".

✓ Success: You are ready for production when a call you did not script ends with complete lead details and a transcript you would be comfortable showing a customer.
